Ivan Fritzen Andrade is a Brazilian violinist and ethnomusicologist from the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Between 2012 and 2017, he made five research trips to northwestern Argentina, where he developed an ethnomusicological study of the practice of singing coplas accompanied by the caja in Amaicha del Valle.

He is the founder and research director of Baxtale! – Romani Music Research Group, an independent project dedicated to the research and performance of European Romani music, with particular attention to the musical traditions of Hungarian Vlax Roma.

Ivan is also the founder and artistic director of Banda Húngara de São Paulo, a research-based musical project exploring Hungarian-language popular music from different periods and its connections with Brazilian musical traditions.

He holds a BA in Music (Violin) and an MA in Music (Musicology/Ethnomusicology) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). His work brings together ethnomusicological research, performance, repertoire studies, and the public communication of musical knowledge. He currently lives in São Paulo, Brazil.
